Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic
  • Timely completion of engineering deliverables including detail engineering.
  • Responsible for preparation/review of concept note, study reports, detailed project reports, cost estimates, design basis reports, technical specification, technical bid discussions, technical evaluation, DCDR etc.
  • Responsible for preparation of technical contracts, review of detailed engineering and release of construction Drawings & Documents.
  • Engineering manager responsible for engineering schedule, managing cross-discipline team and consultant engineers working on the project.
  • New technology evaluation and techno-commercial assessment for adoption in Tata Power.
  • Engineering support to project team during execution and commissioning of project.
  • To extend technical support to Business Development team for any new proposal/assignment.
  • Departmental strategy formulation.
  • Mentoring new and junior team members for induction to engineering activities.
  • Alignment with Business Excellence Team for EPM, TBEM Internal review & as an assessor to the divisions of TATA Power etc.
  • Contribution towards Group Innovation by participating in InnoVista Platform, eHackathon etc.
  • Operational
  • Drive engineering and design processes for various components in new projects.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews and approvals of engineering deliverables including DPRs, concept notes, drawings, schemes, life cycle costings, cost estimations etc.
  • Reviewing project and vendor deliverables to ensure compliance to technical specification, codes & procedures.
  • Responsible for providing technical support to operating divisions regarding breakdowns of running equipment, root cause analysis and modifications to improve the reliability of operating plant.
  • Identifying new technologies and life cycle assessment for adoption in Tata Power.
  • Responsible for technical support during contract disputes during execution.
  • Responsible for providing solution to Site / Project commissioning group.
  • Responsible for changes in Technical specs with the inputs from Engg CAPA, DCDR and Lessons Learnt.
  • To ensure safety aspects while designing.
  • Identify and develop new vendors for supply and services.
  • To be updated about revised standards/ regulations/ guidelines issued by respective authorities.
  • Collaborating with Academia for new Technological solutions and supporting divisions.
  • Financial
  • Life cycle cost evaluation of projects/proposals.
  • Responsible for cost optimization in design/engineering and selection of energy savings scheme with help of new technology and innovative approaches.
  • Continual improvement in design with help of lesson learnt to enhance the cost savings.
  • Avoiding cost overruns in engineering systems.
  • Strategizing cost-saving initiatives: identifying and implementing technologies aligned with operational efficiency for divisions.
  • Facilitating divisions in implementing cost and energy saving techniques.
  • People
  • Managing PEC (Project Engineering Consultant) team for timely deliverables.
  • Provide support to project site deputed team members and TPIA in addressing site-related challenges.
  • Mentoring junior team for engineering capability development.
  • Capability development of team through technical training and technical discussions.
  • To conduct workshop/knowledge-sharing sessions to internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Bachelor’s in engineering (Mechanical)
  • >14 years of experience in PowerGen industry.
  • MTech in Mechanical Engg / MBA in Power Management – Preferable
  • External consulting experience – Preferable
  • Development of financial & business models.
  • Techno-commercial evaluation of new technologies.
